Fallout 4 Take 2

20160514145953_1So… I made a girl toon, made her a redhead and named her after my best friend, Isabel. My previous build was Endurance/Agility, and then towards the end began to point into Charisma so I could win dialogue choices trying to save grace with the Minutemen. I also made it a project to recruit every companion the game offered. This time, I went with a Charisma build and decided I was only going to use Dogmeat as my companion and stick with pistols as my weapon of choice. (Almost every Fallout game I choose rifles because I enjoy sniping everyone.)

Holy crap, I’m not going to pretend to know what I’m doing but I definitely ain’t doing it right. I’ve died sooooooooo much. I’m level 14 now and wondering what was I thinking. My idea of just exploring everything isn’t working because I keep coming across super high level monsters, at level 9 I encountered and eventually ran away from a level 22 Raider, and at around 12 encountered a level 30 Super Mutant (another run with my tail tucked between my legs). The good news is this time I’ve actually seem to come across a fair amount of fusion cores so  I should be wearing my power armor. I never wore it in the first game because I never had any cores until I was around level 30.

Fallout 4

20160513123646_1So I finally reached the ending cutscene and I must say I feel disappointed. It isn’t that the game is over (well most of it is) I only have 2 factions of the original 4 remaining. I have my X-01 Power Armor, I’m level 51. I have all the companions except 2 (I had to kill one of them, /sadface). I honestly tried my best to keep as many factions up as possible (they give repeating infinite quests) but I wound up with a Desdemona bug that wouldn’t let me turn in Randolph Safehouse 5. She kept telling me to go talk to Z1 and wouldn’t allow me to turn in the quest. So I got angry and shot her.

I should play as a female this time. My male toon was so hot, and apparently bisexual. I went romance with everyone I could. I wound up wearing the Minutemen General Hat and Uniform for the entire game once I found it. I just like the way it looked that much.

I think I will restart and this time, go slower, just explore, and work more on my settlements. There is so much of the map I haven’t explored.

Recap of April

OMG, HOLY SHIT, FINALLY IT’S MAY!10-goodbye-april-hello-may-quotes-7628-4

Bedbugs, Paul fracturing his elbow, washing machine broke, Paul got a raise and made us ineligible for state assisted insurance, meaning we went from paying $28 a month for the kids to $213 a month, and the sewing machine broke. That was in April. However it continued on to May, May 1st the monitor broke, May 2nd my glasses broke.

There were a few good things in April. My 16th wedding anniversary, I changed jobs to one I like a lot better. A friend sent me money to help with replacing the washing machine. The bedbug problem was solved within 2 weeks, I had to borrow money from my grandpa for it. I just sent him my first payment of $100. I’m paying $100 twice a month for the next 9 months. It’ll be February when I pay him back completely. A friend sent me recycled silk as a gift and Paul bought me Fallout 4 which I’m ridiculously addicted to. So far my favorite companion is Dogmeat (I think he’s everyone’s favorite) but other than him are Macready and Paladin Danse. I’m slowly maxing affinity with all my companions, and I’m still missing Curie. I think I’m getting close to the end finally, after weeks of playing, only stopping for work, sleep and errands. It is like playing WoW again. I used to spend 18 hours a day at least playing WoW.

PayEnemy not PayPal

I know I’m being snarky and angry but I’m gonna bitch anyway. So I told PayPal about my photoproblem with Game Hosting taking $12 and explained that I had canceled my account with them a month ago. I had no account to log into, but still they took $12 and I know that $12 isn’t a whole lot, but it is the principle of it. A company shouldn’t take money they aren’t owed only because they have access to your account. I think that is called theft. I did send an email to Game Hosting and I intend to send another, asking the return of my $12. This is what PayPal had to say to me:

“We’ve completed our review of your unauthorized transaction claim. The payment in question was sent as part of a payment agreement you previously set up with the merchant. As a result, we’re unable to consider this to be an unauthorized payment.

As a courtesy, we’ve canceled this payment agreement for you. In the future, however, please be aware that you can manage and cancel your payment agreements directly from your PayPal account.”

So I should cancel my payment agreements through PayPal and not through the actual merchant sites, which is odd because I have several payment agreements set up, Netflix, HULU, Spotify, and I manage them all through the individual companies. Well from now on I’ll just stop sending Netflix money when I want to cancel rather than letting Netflix know directly. Seems so asshole to me.

I sent PayPal another email saying I wanted to know what investigation documentation they had used to reach their agreement. Did they talk to Game Hosting at all? Did they even read where I said I had canceled my account with Game Hosting.

I realize that PayPal is a business, and the point of business is to make money. However I am a customer and I suppose Game Hosting is too, but we’re talking $12 to right a wrong here.

I’m actually cooled off now than I was before at 6 AM when I read the email from PayPal, I was very close to closing my PayPal account and having them lose a customer forever.

Don’t Starve Together Dedicated Server Woes

I love the game Don’t Starve Together. Actually I started playing Don’t Starve, then I saw Harshly Critical (a YouTuber) playing DST with his friends and I adore how everyone picks on MrKravin (another YouTuber). It was a survival video game I could play with my daughter. I played on the desktop and she used my old laptop. The problem got to be that we couldn’t seem to play together. I couldn’t get the LAN game to work, even by connecting our computers with an ethernet cord (I’m not really computer savvy here.) She just lagged out too much. So I started blaming Charter or my computer not being able to support the DST server. So I went looking to rent a dedicated server so my daughter and I can play DST.

I googled ‘DST dedicated server hosting’ the first hit I got was http://gamehosting.co/

The “customer reviews” were all about how easy and simple it was to set up the server. So I went with it. I followed all the guides as best I could. I didn’t understand a lot of it, so much coding, a lot of copy and pasting. I couldn’t even get the server to show up in the server list on the game. So I contacted tech support, apologized for being a dolt and said I needed help. I informed them their guides were out of date (it showed what I need to put into boxes that I didn’t have). They directed me to a dedicated server guide on the DST wiki!!! That guide was to set up a dedicated server through Steam, not how to set one up with game hosting. After about 3 or 4 days of not being able to get it to work and getting a headache I finally contacted them and asked for my account to be canceled (cause I couldn’t find where to cancel my account on their website) and I told them how bad their customer service was and how complicated their setup was. They just sent me an e-mail saying my account was canceled. That was probably on April 10 or 12th.

I got an e-mail from Paypal letting me know that Game Hosting took another $12 out of my account to pay for services I do not have! I need an angry emoji here. So I contacted Game Hosting again, demanded my $12 back and then contacted Paypal saying Game Hosting took $12 they shouldn’t have. I checked with Game Hosting, I do not have an account that I can log into. So I’m waiting to hear back.

I did get a dedicated server for a month for DST until I started playing Fallout 4. I used http://citadelservers.com/ And talk about a complete turn around. Once again I couldn’t get the server to work. I contacted customer support and they replied, “Oh you needed to do this and this, but don’t worry, we took care of it for you.” Also their layout was much more simple and their guides spot on and detailed with images. Also they were $2 cheaper than Game Hosting. I enjoyed using them and I will use them again once I get Fallout 4 out of my system.
